Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology

Oral Pathology is a branch of dentistry that deals with structural and functional changes in cells, tissues and organs of the oral cavity that cause or are caused by diseases.

Overall aim is to be excellent in research, to deliver high quality teaching and provide first class, quality assured; clinical services. The clinical evaluation and diagnosis of oral mucosal disease are in the scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.

Apart from the undergraduate training, reporting of the biopsy specimens and cytological smears are done in the department. The department is well equipped with all the instruments required for biopsy tissue processing, embedding, sectioning of tissue blocks and staining. The department is also well equipped with majority of the special stains like hematoxyline and eosin, PAP and PAS, which are required for various specific detection of disease.

Department is also highly equipped with all modern microscopes which includes Trinocular research microscope with camera, polarizing unit and dark field attachements, Fluorescent microscope and advanced binocular microscopes for routine reporting.

With these entire backup, department is actively involved in training both undergraduate and post graduate students.
