CODE OF CONDUCT

Chhattisgarh Dental College and Research Institute, being the first Dental College of the state, founded in 2002, is a self-financing organisation run by the Youth Foundation of India, with a vision of excellence in knowledge, skills, and services. CDCRI is situated at Rajnandgaon, Sundra, which is about 65 km from the state capital Raipur, C.G., and is well connected by rail, road, and air to all metro cities. The institution has its own set of rules outlining norms, rules, responsibilities and proper practices.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE DEAN/PRINCIPAL

The principal is the academic and administrative head of the institution. He/She is responsible for addressing and resolving issues in education.

  1. The dean shall oversee and monitor the administration of the academic program, functioning of the college as per the university norms and the general administration of the institute to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the overall administrative tasks and assignments.
  2.  The dean/principal should conduct himself/herself with transparency, fairness, honesty, the highest degree of ethics and decision-making that is in the best interest of the college.
  3.  The dean should realise the full potential and abilities of the employees and should appreciate and uplift the morale of the employees.
  4.  The dean must care to maintain the integrity, privacy and confidentiality of any information related to the college and should also maintain the privacy of oral communication as and when requested.
  5.  The dean should provide leadership, direction and coordination within the institute.
  6.  The dean shall form various college-level committees that are necessary for the development of the institute. He/she is to conduct meetings of HODs and convenors of various committees to ensure functioning as per policies decided by governing bodies.
  7. He/she shall monitor various academic and curricular activities like conferences, seminars, workshops and various education fests.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR TEACHERS/ACADEMIC STAFFS

The code of conduct for faculty normally addresses the matters related to the conduct of teachers, such as teaching, learning, evaluation, relationship with the students, associated staff, management, parents, duties and responsibilities with moral & professional ethics.

  1. The faculty shall continue to enrich their professional knowledge by participating in seminars/workshops as part of continuing dental and medical education programs as stipulated by the regulations made by the statutory bodies from time to time, and should register any mandatory requirements with the state registration bodies or any other body as stipulated.
  2.  The teacher shall perform their duties in the form of teaching, tutorials, practicals, seminars, and research work conscientiously in an effective manner, to improve the practical knowledge of the student.
  3. The work plan of teaching staff should ensure, in the most productive manner, about the roles, jobs and targets assigned to them by the department.
  4. At the institution level, it is advised that there be no discrimination against any employee based on age, sex, religion, region, caste and gender.
  5. The faculty members shall need to identify needs and differences among students in their socio-cultural background and design teaching methods accordingly.
  6. The faculty members should report to the college within 15 minutes of the college commencement time.
  7. The faculty members shall not consume any intoxicating drink or be under the influence of any intoxicating drink or drug during the course of their duty, and shall take due care that the performance of their duties at any time is not affected in any way by the influence of any such drink or drug.
  8. The faculty shall maintain contact with the guardians, their student, send reports of their performance to the guardians whenever and meet the guardians in meetings convened for mutual exchange of ideas and for the benefit of the Institution.
  9. Faculties as dentists should merit the confidence of patients entrusted to their care, rendering to each a full measure of service and devotion. They should practice methods of healing founded on a scientific basis and should not associate professionally with anyone who violates this principle.

Course Planning and Material Preparation

The faculty member is required to plan and make complete preparation well in advance to effectively teach the theory and practical courses.

  1. Once the subject is allotted, the staff shall prepare a lecture-wise lesson plan and PowerPoint formats for each topic. The course file should be maintained as per the prescribed format.
  2.  The faculty members must strive to prepare themselves to meet all the challenges and requirements in the methodology of teaching so that the input may be useful for the student community at large.
  3.   Any academic activity record should be maintained by the faculty in charge.
  4.  The staff should interact with the coordinators and HOD about students, to inform him/her about the habitual absentees, slow learners, any objectionable behaviour, etc
  5. Reviews about teaching can be maintained in the form of feedback forms from students, and the teaching method can be adjusted appropriately, which helps to upgrade the performance of students.

Monitoring of students’ progress

The faculty of any course shall be required to watch the attendance and academic performance of each student of his/her course and take necessary steps at his/her command to improve the student’s progress.

Faculty welfare policies

Leave policy

Eligible employees have to follow the guidelines as per the service rules of CDCRI before proceeding on any type of leave. For availing any kind of leave, prior approval by the appropriate leave sanctioning authority is required.

Casual leave

On joining the institute, faculty members are granted 15 days of leave only.

OD /Special leave

After completion of one year, Faculty members are granted OD/ special leaves annually to participate in examinership or Inspections.

Earned leave

42 days of earned leave can be availed annually. To avail earned leave, an employee must have completed one year of service. Earned leave is to be taken after approval by the concerned authority, at least a week before proceeding on leave.

Medical leave

To avail sick leave, an employee must have completed one year of service. Sick leave can be availed subject to the production of valid medical documents like admission/discharge/fitness certificate from a reputed hospital/nursing home.

Compensatory leave

Leave will be provided for services provided by a faculty member working on a college holiday and can be compensated within a month with prior approval. Compensatory leave cannot be availed as a half-day

Maternity leave

Married lady employees who have completed one year of service are only eligible. The maximum period of leave is 135 days (including all intermediate holidays and vacations), of which 90 days are paid leave.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR NON-TEACHING STAFFS

It is not possible to list all the forms of behaviour that are considered unacceptable in the workplace. The following are a few examples of conduct that may result in disciplinary and legal action, up to and including termination of employment:

  1. Unauthorised use of college property, facilities, or resources.
  2. Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs or smoking on campus.
  3. Possession, distribution, sale, transfer, or use of alcohol or illegal drugs in the workplace, while on duty, or while operating college-owned vehicles or equipment.
  4. Possession of weapons or explosives on the College campus, which includes all buildings, spaces and motor vehicles, on college property.
  5. Possession of dangerous or unauthorised materials in the workplace.
  6. Negligence or improper conduct leading to damage to college, student, or employee-owned property.
  7. Sexual or other unlawful harassment or discrimination.
  8. Fighting, threatening violence, or causing harm to others in the workplace.
  9. Behaviour that prevents others from doing their work.
  10. Violation of safety or health rules.
  11. Excessive absenteeism or any absence without notice.
  12. Unauthorised absence from the workplace during the workday.
  13. Unauthorised or improper use of telephones, e-mail system, or other college-owned equipment.
  14. Unauthorised disclosure of confidential information.
  15. Furnishing false information regarding previous employment, marks, qualifications etc.
  16. Sleeping while on duty.
  17. Selling, attempting to sell or promoting the sale of non-college merchandise while in college premises
  18. Use of college supplies, equipment, property, or services to carry out private business ventures
  19. Violation of HR policies.
  20. Violation of local, state, or central laws
  21. Any willful behaviour that results in the destruction of college property or brings injury to another employee
  22. Unsatisfactory performance or conduct
  23. Conduct that reflects unfavourably on the college.
  24. Engaging in works, profession or business other than that of the college.

Any non-compliance with the above code of conduct, any other related HR policies, non- performance or insubordination will be considered as a gross violation under the college’s established disciplinary practices and procedures and may carry disciplinary consequences, up to and including dismissal from employment. Also note that any such violations may also subject individuals to financial and legal action in state or federal courts.
